The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will hit the track Saturday at Oxford Plains Speedway for the All States Materials Group 150 and missing from the lineup will be four-time series champion and 48-time series winner Justin Bonsignore.
The news broke Wednesday that Bonsignore and his Ken Massa owned team would skip the event at Oxford Plains. Bonsignore confirmed Thursday that the team will also skip the May 16 Whelen Modified Tour event at Seekonk Speedway.
Bonsignore’s seventh place finish at Thompson Speedway on April 12 was 243rd consecutive Whelen Modified Tour start, dating back to the first event of the 2010 season.
The last time NASCAR ran a Whelen Modified Tour event without Bonsignore in the lineup was October 25, 2009 at Thompson Speedway.
On that day at Thompson Speedway the late Ted Christopher celebrated victory in the Whelen Modified Tour World Series 150 and Donny Lia clinched his second series title.
Current NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Preece was celebrating his 20th birthday that day and finished second to Christopher.
Doug Coby, who at that point in his career had one series victory and had never finished better than seventh in the series standings, was third that day. Coby now has 35 series wins and six series championships.
