A fill-in role has turned into a full-time ride for the remainder of the 2012 season on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour for Ted Christopher.

Boehler Racing Enterprises president Mike Boehler said Tuesday that Ted Christopher will compete in his team’s No. 3 “Ole Blue” ride for the final three events of the season of the Whelen Modified Tour season.
“We’ll run the rest of the year together and then kind of go from there over the winter and see what happens,” Boehler said.
Christopher will compete for the team owned by Wayne Anderson in this Saturday’s Whelen Modifed Tour event at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway. Christopher has been racing for Anderson weekly this season at Riverhead and had planned to drive for them when the race was originally scheduled to be run on July 28, before it was rained out.
The 54-year old Christopher, the division’s third winningest driver of all time, lost his regular ride on the Tour when team owner Ed Whelan shut down his operation following the July 14 event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Christopher got the chance to get in the Boehler Racing Enterprises No. 3 after their driver, Keith Rocco, was injured in an SK Modified practice crash at Thompson on July 29. Christopher made his first start for BRE in the Bud 150 at Thompson on Aug. 9 also ran for the team at the UNOH 150 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Aug. 22 and in Sunday’s Town Fair Tire 75 and UNOH Showdown 150 at Thompson International Speedway.
Christopher scored the victory and the $15,000 plus winner’s purse in the non-points UNOH Showdown Sunday.
“Obviously Sunday helped out a lot,” Boehler said. “It helped out moral-wise with the guys and money-wise to keep things going. That was good.”
Christopher will compete in the team’s primary at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Sept. 22), Stafford Motor Speedway (Sept. 30) and Thompson (Oct. 14).
Boehler said that the team will field a second car for Rocco once he gets medical clearance.
“I talked to Keith and he’s been doing rehab and he’s waiting to get a note from the doctor and we’re hoping to put him in our short track car the last two races to try to win the Rookie of the Year title,” Boehler said. “That’s the game plan now. We’ll run him in that second car the last two races. It’s nothing against him, he didn’t plan on going out to break his wrist.”
