On Saturday NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Labonte came out on a top of a very long, eventful and dramatic race for the SMART Modified Tour at Caraway Speedway.
We caught up with Bobby today to talk about the event at Caraway, the SMART Tour, his Modified plans for the remainder of the season and his planned visit to Lime Rock Park this weekend to run a Trans-Am car and also run as part of the rebirth of the IROC Series.
Labonte, who has long had a reputation as one of the cleanest drivers around, took plenty of heat after the race at Caraway – at the track and on social media – for some incidents he was involved in late in the race.
“I don’t want anybody to wreck, whether I’m close to them or not,” Labonte told RaceDayCT. “If I’m anywhere in the vicinity, or if I was a part of it, I really feel bad about that. I do. That’s my nature, it has been my nature forever. Of course, I get cussed out by somebody before I ever get out the race car, it bothers me.”
