Eric Berndt Wins CarQuest Fall Final SK Modified Feature At Stafford Speedway

STAFFORD – Eric Berndt held off the charges of Glen Reen over three late attempts at green-white-checkered finishes to win the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Sunday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the second victory of the season for Berndt, of Cromwell, who won in the second event of the season in May.

“It felt like a long stretch,” Berndt said. “… We struggled mid-season. We still had the built motor. We were fighting against the spec motors. It was a losing battle. So about 4-5 weeks ago we put a spec motor together and here we are.”

Frank Ruocco of Cheshire grabbed second place on the final restart. Reen, of Wilbraham, was third.

Reen gave Berndt stout challenges on the outside on the late restarts, but never could steal away the top spot.

“My car took a good two laps for the tires to heat up and then it was pretty good,” Berndt said. “As long as we kept Glen at bay and didn’t give him a shot to get a run on me I thought we were going to be in pretty good shape.”
