Stafford Notes: Cory Casagrande Rides Victory To Limited Late Model Championship

STAFFORD – It was a closing kick over the second half of the season of legendary proportions for Cory Casagrande and Saturday the Stafford driver rode that kick to a championship.

Casagrande won five of the last seven Limited Late Model events of 2012 at Stafford Motor Speedway, including the season ending 20-lap event Saturday, and captured his first track championship.

Casagrande had podium finishes in his first 10 races of the season, though it took him 12 races before he got his first win.

Casagrande came into the final event of the season holding a 6 point lead over Josh Wood at the top of the standings.

D.J. Burnham of East Hartford was second in Saturday’s feature and Jesse Hinze of Farmington third.

Bob Charland of Stafford won the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature. Cam McDermott of Scituate, R.I. was second and Jay Goff of Stafford third. Zach Aszklar of Wallingford won the division’s championship.

Austin Bessette of Stafford held off Kris Fluckiger of Enfield to win the 15-lap DARE Stock feature.

A third place finish by Cliff Saunders clinched the DARE Stock division championship for the Stafford driver.

The race was marred by a vicious first lap crash that send drivers Kaitlyn Brice and Donnie Swan to the hospital. Conditions were unknown for either driver.
