Preece won in fan balloting for the 2012 Most Popular Driver Award on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Other most popular driver awards for 2012 in NASCAR’s regional touring divisions went to Danny Bohn (Whelen Southern Modified Tour), Chase Elliot (K&N Pro Series East), Cassie Gannis (K&N Pro Series East), Ray Couremanche Jr., (Canadian Tire Series), Pepe Montano (Toyota Series) and Freddy Nordstrom (Euro-Racecar NASCAR).

Online voting for the awards began in mid-August and ended Nov. 18 with nearly 210,000 votes placed, 54 percent more than in 2011.

“These numbers demonstrate how the fan base of NASCAR’s touring series continues to grow,” George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series said in a release. “Several drivers across the board engaged fans through various forms of social media which has taken this award to a new level.”

The Most Popular Driver award winners will be recognized at the NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards on Dec. 8 at the Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
