Ron Silk Tops Modified Field In Richie Evans Memorial 100 Friday At New Smyrna Speedway

It was a new face in victory lane for the Modified Tour Type division Friday at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.

Ron Silk of Norwalk took the checkered as the winner of the Richie Evans Memorial 100 at New Smyrna.

The event marked the fifth of six events for the Modified division at the New Smyrna World Series this year.

Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y. was second and Woody Pitkat of Stafford third.

Pitkat had won three of the first four events at the World Series, winning the opener last Friday and also on Wednesday and Thursday night. Hossfeld won the second race of the World Series for the Modifieds last Saturday.

According to The Chrome Horn, Silk passed Pitkat for the lead Friday on lap 83 and then held off a charging Hossfeld over the closing laps.

Fourteen cars took the green flag for the event.
