Michael Gervais Looks To Keep Winning Trend Rolling In SK Modified Division At Stafford Speedway

One look down the winner’s list from last season in the SK Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway shows just how great the pedigree is in the talent pool of the division at Stafford.

Over 18 SK Modified division events in 2012, only three races were won by drivers who weren’t also competing full-time in Modified Touring divisions.

And one driver accounted for two of those three victories.

Michael Gervais Jr. had a breakout season in 2012, winning twice at Stafford on the way to a third place finish in the season standings at the track.

Gervais finished the season with seven top-five and 13 top-10’s in 18 events last year.

“We’re coming back with the same equipment as last year, but it’s freshened up,” Gervais said in press release from Stafford Speedway. “Going into last year, we had been pretty close to winning a race and we were fortunate enough to get two wins. We worked on improving our finishes and we managed to finish up front a lot last year and hopefully we can do the same thing again this year. We’ve gradually improved our finish every year since we started SK racing, so we’re hoping we can continue that positive trend and maybe even improve two more spots at the end of the year. We learned a few things with the setup last year and I don’t see why we can’t continue from last year. I’d like to say we’re going to win the championship, but we’re just going to try to do the best we can week by week and see how things go.”

Sean Foster was the only other driver who didn’t compete regularly in a Touring division with an SK Modified division win at Stafford last year.

Gervais, of Southbury, won the track’s SK Light Modified championship in 2009 and moved to the SK Modified division the next season. He finished 21st in the standings in 2010 and then 10th in the standings, with two top-five finishes, in 2011.

“The start of the season can’t come soon enough and we’re all excited to see what the new year will bring for us,” Gervais said.
