New Hampshire Motor Speedway Cancels March 30 Fantasy Drive Open House

Spring arrived Wednesday, though the snow blanketing the ground throughout much of New England tells a different story.

And that snow has forced officials at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to make some changes to the upcoming schedule at the Loudon facility.

NHMS officials announced Wednesday that they will cancel the March 30 Fantasy Drive Open House at the track, which would have allowed race ticket holders to drive their cars around the 1.058-mile speedway.

The Speedway Star singing competition scheduled for that day at the track has been moved to the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester.

Ticket holders will get the opportunity to on the racing surface at Loudon at a later date.

“To prevent frost damage to the racing surface, we don’t allow any plows or snow-clearing vehicles on the track,” Tom Blanchette, director of operations for NHMS said in a release. “Our best snow remover is Mother Nature, and until she starts to warm up, the track remains buried beneath the snow, which also serves as an insulation blanket to protect the surface from frost heaves and other damage.”

New Hampshire Motor Speedway has set aside four dates for ticket holders to hit the track, from 5-7 p.m. on May 3 or June 7 on the 1.6-mile road course – which includes a large portion of the oval – and May 31 and June 21 on the 1.058-mile oval. Ticket holders must RSVP to the track by April 20 to reserve a spot for one of the dates.
