Back To The Front: Cam McDermott Picks Up Where He Left Off With SK Light Mod Win At Thompson

THOMPSON -Cam McDermott’s dominating ways of 2012 at Thompson continued into the new season.

McDermott of Scituate, Mass. drove away from the field in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.

Numerous accidents left only three cars on the track at the finish.

“I feel bad for these fans, I know a lot of people came here to watch a race and we had some cars fall out,” said McDermott, who had 14 victories on the way to the division championship at Thompson in 2012.

McDermott dedicated his victory to SK Modified driver Jimmy Smith, who had a medical issue at the track on Saturday after a heat race and later passed away. McDermott was one of the first people on the scene on Saturday trying to aid Smith.

“This one is for Jimmy Smith,” McDermott said “ He parked next to us every week. It’s tough. It’s tough to see what we saw yesterday.”

Joe Boivin of Belchertown, Mass. was second and Eric LeClair of Easthampton, Mass. third.

That race was a fiasco. If I recall, they had two wrecks before they completed a single lap. Very amateur.
