WATERFORD – An injured left wrist sustained during an SK Modified heat race Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl had Keith Rocco heading to the hospital before features at the track.
Or did it?
After leaving the track, Rocco cancelled a trip to the hospital Saturday evening, instead deciding to return and attempt to run the SK Modified and Late Model features Saturday at Waterford.
Rocco said he would at least try to start both events.
The injury happened to the same left wrist Rocco broke in a practice crash at Thompson International Speedway last July.
Rocco said he thinks the injury he sustained Saturday was different than the one last year. Rocco suffered the injury after contact with Justin Gaydosh during his SK Modified division heat race.
“Gaydosh can’t let you drive by him without him running into the side of you,” Rocco said. “He didn’t have nearly the car to put himself in the position he was in and he was trying to battle me for the last qualifying spot and he got free and corrected and drove right into my left front. As soon as he hit my left front it ripped the wheel right out of my hand.”
Rocco’s SK Modified team had loaded his car back in the trailer and Rocco said he was leaving the track to go to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. But not long after he walked to the parking lot with his wife Cassie, Rocco reappeared in the pits at Waterford.
