Kickoff: Ryan Preece Opens Season At Stafford Speedway With SK Modified Victory

STAFFORD – If it was a display Sunday of what could be seen regularly in 2013 in the SK Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway by Ryan Preece, then the competition at the track is in for a long year.

Ryan Preece easily ran away from the field to win the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Sunday at the 42nd Spring Sizzler at Stafford.

Preece took the lead from Glen Reen following a lap five restart and went virtually unchallenged the rest of the way.

By the time the checkered flag flew Preece had built a straightaway lead over second place finisher Todd Owen of Somers.

“You know it’s not too often you get a perfect racecar, but Mike Paquette with this [Chassis Dynamics] chassis, he gave me that. He made my job easy,” Preece said. “I give all the credit to that guy and my crew behind me. … They work a lot of hours and there’s a lot of dedication put in at the shop.”

Doug Coby of Milford finished third. Seven-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Mike Stefanik, making his first SK Modified appearance since the early 1990’s, finished seventh after relieving the injured Keith Rocco early in the race.
