Rowan Pennink Looking To Keep Thompson Speedway Valenti Modified Racing Series Roll Going Sunday

The Valenti Modified Racing Series points leader will be bringing not only momentum, but also mounds of confidence, when the division makes its first appearance of 2013 at Thompson International Speedway on Sunday.

After two events this season for the series, Rowan Pennink is the standings leader, the most recent winner and he’s heading to a track where success has become commonplace for he and his Gary Casella owned team.

Sunday’s 75-lap event at Thompson marks the first of three events for the division at the .625-mile oval in 2013. The series ran three events at Thompson last year for the first time in its history.

Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., bookended victories at the track in 2013, winning the May event and October event for the VMRS at Thompson. They were Pennink’s second and third career VMRS victories at Thompson. Ted Christopher won the July VMRS event at Thompson in 2013.

“The way that [Casella owned] car runs here, I’ll never complain when they add races at Thompson for [Valenti Modified Racing Series],” Pennink said last October. “That thing rolls here. It’s been a long time since we came here and struggled. That thing is always fast here. Gary’s got a really good setup for it. … It’s crazy how good it is.”

Christopher, of Plainville, is expected to make his first VMRS start of the season behind the wheel of Joe Brady’s ride. Also expected to make his first start of the season is 2012 series champion Jon McKennedy in his Art Barry owned ride.
