At the Spring Sizzler in late April at Stafford, Santos was fastest in practice, won the pole in qualifying and ended up winning the event.

Friday he was keeping the streak alive. After setting the fast time in practice, Santos backed up the effort in qualifying by winning the pole for tonight’s Whelen Modified Tour TSI Harley-Davidson 125 at Stafford.

Santos, driving for Tinio Motorsports, toured the half-mile oval at Stafford in 18.301 seconds (98.355 mph). It was the 10th career Whelen Modified Tour pole for Santos and his fifth at Stafford Motor Speedway.

“The guys gave me an awesome car again,” Santos said. “… I’m just happy to be driving this racecar, it’s a lot of fun. Tonight is the important part. The pole doesn’t mean nothing if you can’t win tonight.”

Santos has won the past two events at Stafford. He was also victorious in the 2012 Whelen Modified Tour Fall Final at Stafford.

Ryan Preece of Berlin will start second after putting up a fast lap of 18.338 seconds (98.157 mph) in qualifying. Ron Silk of Norwalk was third fastest in qualifying (18.380 seconds, 97.933 mph).

Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. will start fourth and Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield fifth.
