New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer Of The Week Award: Danny Cates

Each week during the 2013 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly division competitors at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson International Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Each week’s winner will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel. Drivers must have a Sunoco Race Fuel decal on their car to be eligible for the weekly award.

It wasn’t exactly David slaying Goliath, but in a field stocked deeply with NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour regulars, it can be easy for race fans to lose a racer like Danny Cates in the crowd.

Friday Cates made sure race fans at Stafford Motor Speedway won’t forget he’s there.

Cates, of Chaplin, raced to his first career victory in the division, and he did it by holding off the attacks of Modified Tour regulars Ted Christopher, Woody Pitkat and Ryan Preece.

For his efforts, Cates is the recipient of this week’s New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week Award.
