Fund Raising Efforts Ongoing In Preparation For Shane Hammond Memorial At Waterford Speedbowl

It’s a night for memorializing former Northeastern Midget Association driver Shane Hammond, but also a night to keep his legacy of helping alive through the Shane Hammond Believe Foundation.

And backers of the foundation are in dire need of help just making the fourth Shane Hammond Memorial event go off without a hitch on July 27 at the Waterford Speedbowl.

The foundation is still looking for a corporate sponsor for the event along with lap and special award sponsors and also help in putting on a post race dinner at Waterford for event participants.

The Shane Hammond Believe Foundation is a non-profit company founded by Shane’s mother, Deb Marvuglio. Hammond was killed during a Northeastern Midget Association event at Thompson International Speedway on April 6, 2008.

According to the Shane Hammond Believe Foundation website, “The foundation is to preserve Shane’s spirit for racing education & safety. When Shane passed, Deb began asking questions about the safety of cars, drivers, tracks and found out there was room for improvement in many, many ways. She also found out that most drivers would rather buy tires than invest in their own safety. The foundation raises money through merchandise sales, fund raisers and donations to help drivers with the expenses of safety equipment as funds permit. The foundation also provides a yearly driving school. The Shane Hammond Midget driving school teaches all aspects of driving a midget from suiting up, belting in and driving.”

To inquire about helping, visit the Shane Hammond Believe Foundation website or the Shane Hammond Memorial event page or call Deb Marvuglio at 508-245-0689.
