New England Racing Fuel Performer Of The Week Award: Glenn Griswold

Each week during the 2013 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly division competitors at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson International Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Each week’s winner will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel. Drivers must have a Sunoco Race Fuel decal on their car to be eligible for the weekly award.

Emotions ran high in victory lane Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl following the SK Light Modified feature.

It was hard for race winner to Glenn Griswold to keep those emotions in check as he celebrated his first career SK Light Modified victory at the shoreline oval.

It was the first victory on track for Griswold, of Vernon, since a 2007 SK Light Modified win at Stafford Motor Speedway for the 49-year old driver.

Griswold, affectionately dubbed ‘The Old Warhorse” by local track announcer Matt Buckler, has been part of the local racing scene, whether as a driver or crew member, since the early 80’s.

This year, with limited resources and nary a regular crew, Griswold has started every SK Light Modified race of 2013 between Waterford, Stafford and Thompson International Speedway. He has also made starts at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway and Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.

It’s at Waterford where Griswold has been most competitive. He came into Saturday’s event having finished second in three consecutive events. Saturday he sealed the deal with his first victory of the season, holding off charges from Larry Goss and Paul French to do it.

For his efforts, Griswold earns the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Performer of the Week Award.
