Bobby Santos III Tops Charts In Whelen Modified Tour Practice At Stafford

STAFFORD – Not that he needs any more incentive, but Bobby Santos III has 25,000 extra reasons to win tonight at Stafford Motor Speedway.

And he started the day off right.

Santos, of Franklin, Mass., led the way in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice Friday at Stafford for tonight’s CarQuest 150.

Santos toured the half-mile oval in with a best lap of 18.465 seconds (97.482 mph).

Santos won the Spring Sizzler on April 28 at Stafford, making him eligible for the CarQuest Triple Crown bonus, which will pay someone a $25,000 bonus for winning the Sizzler, tonight’s event and the Fall Final at Stafford on Sept. 29.

Ron Silk of Norwalk was second fastest in practice at 18.526 seconds (97.161 mph).

Reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby of Milford was third fastest at 18.566 seconds (96.951 mph). Whelen Modified Tour points leader Ryan Preec of Berlin, who won the division’s TSI Harley-Davidson 125 at Stafford on June 14, was 11th of 26 cars in practice.
