Last Saturday, with two events remaining in the season, Keith Rocco clinched his first Late Model division championship at the Waterford Speedbowl.

This week his car owner will get the chance to return to the track and celebrate that championship where it happened.

Late Model team owner Scott Fearn was cleared Wednesday to return to the track. Fearn had been banned from attending events at the track since third degree assault charges were filed against him on April 20 after he was involved in an altercation with Joe Godbout Jr., a crew member for Late Model driver Rich Staskowski.

The altercation and assault happened in the pits at Waterford after an incident on the track where contact from Staskowski sent Rocco into a hard crash.

Wednesday the matter was resolved by the court system, with Fearn receiving 18 months probation for the incident. He was cleared to return to the Speedbowl, which hosts it’s final Saturday night weekly show of the year this weekend. The track’s finale weekend is Oct 5-6.

With two races remaining this season, Rocco holds a 127-point lead over Palmer. The most points a driver can accumulate in an event at Waterford is 55. Rocco clinched the title last week with his third consecutive victory and 10th win overall in the division this year.

It marked the first championship in the division for Fearn as a car owner.

“What are you going to do,” Fearn said about being a week late to celebrating the title on the track with his team. “I’m just glad I get to go back this year and this is all behind us now.”
