Finale Weekend In Full Swing At The Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – There were a few new faces, but what stood out the most on Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl was who wasn’t there for the 2013 Finale Weekend.

With the championship already decided, and actually the top-three locked in their spots, two thirds of the top three in standings in the Whelen All-American Series SK Modified division were not at the track Saturday for qualifying day.

Reigning SK Modified division champion Tyler Chadwick of Ledard made his final act as the division’s champion one to remember. Chadwick’s team was not at the track for qualifying for Sunday’s 50-lap feature on the final day of the season.

Chadwick is currently third in the standings and cannot move up to second. He is 38 points ahead of fourth place Craig Lutz.

Also missing Saturday was Todd Ceravolo of Gales Ferry, who was second in the standings coming into the event. Ceravolo’s son-in-law Keith Rocco of Wallingford clinched the 2013 SK Modified division championship in the final Saturday night event of the season on Sept. 28.

Rocco was at the track Saturday readying for a run at Waterford’s all-time record for wins in a season by one driver.

Rocco has 22 victories this season. The record for wins is 23, set by Don Collins in 1960. Rocco, who has also already clinched the track’s Late Model division title this year, is driving five cars at Waterford this weekend. He has his regular SK Modified and Late Model, plus rides in the NEMA Lite, Legends and Outlaw Stock divisions.

Saturday’s schedule will see features for the SK Light Modifieds (25 lap) NEMA Lite (25-lap), New England Truck Series (25-lap), Bandolero (20-lap), Super X-Car (25-lap), X-Car (25-lap) and Outlaw Stock (25-lap).
