Team Owner Bob Katon Unsure Of Plans With Whelen Modified Tour For 2014

As those around the Whelen Modified Tour garage check off the list of who will be back and who won’t be back in 2014, team owner Bob Katon isn’t ready to take a side.

Katon said Monday he’s not sure what his team will be doing in 2014.

“I don’t have anything going on right now,” Katon said. “I’m not sure what we’re going to do. Not sure if we’re going to do anything. I’ve got some options, but I’m still looking around. I don’t know what we’re going to do.”

Eric Berndt has driven for the team for the last three seasons. Berndt was replaced in the car for the final race of the 2013 season on Oct. 20 at Thompson Speedway by Keith Rocco. Katon said before that event that it was a one-race deal with Rocco and that it didn’t mean he was parting ways with Berndt.

During an appearance on Overdrive Radio on Saturday Berndt said he likely won’t be back on the Modified Tour next year.

“As of right now I don’t have any solid rides,” Berndt said. “… We’re going to concentrate on trying to get a championship at Stafford [Motor Speedway] in an SK Modified.”

Berndt finished 17th in the Modified Tour standings in 2011 with Katon and was 13th in 2012. He was 19th in 2013 after starting 13 of 14 events.
