Official: Whelen Modified Tour Headed To Lancaster Speedway In 2021

As reported Wednesday exclusively by RaceDayCT, NASCAR announced Thursday that the Whelen Modified Tour will visit Lancaster Speedway at New York International Raceway Park in Lancaster, N.Y. in 2021.

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour series director Jimmy Wilson confirmed the the addition to the schedule to RaceDayCT.

The series will be making its first visit to the .625-mile oval. The series will run on July 31, 2021 at Lancaster.

Though the track – which opened in 1959 – has never hosted a Whelen Modified Tour event, the facility has been a hotbed of Tour Type Modified racing for decades. Most recently the Race of Champions Modified Tour has made regular stops at Lancaster.

With Lancaster included, six races have been confirmed for the 2021 Whelen Modified Tour season.

NASCAR announced events at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway (April 8) and Richmond Raceway (Sept. 10).

Stafford Speedway has announced three Whelen Modified Tour events for 2021 on Wednesday on April 25, Aug. 6 and Sept. 25.

Comments

  1. Jimmy is not tipping his hand on anything related to 2021 right now. I’m at 12 races myself thus far. I think 16-17 is where we end up. That’s up from last week. 2021 is looking really solid. Quality venues. What a difference a week makes.

It’s nice seeing the western NY crowd get excited for a race. That will be a fun race weekend.

  2. Need to be at NHMS and THOMPSON, both staples on the the whelen modified tour……

  3. I think the WMT will struggle to fill dates for 2021 especially with COVID 19 exploding across the country. I am guessing 10-12 events unless things change drastically with the virus and I mean soon.

  4. I also believe the schedule will remain very fluid as many tracks will wait to see how the states they are located in regulate activities based on the impact of the virus.

Its a little tough to stick your neck out and any schedule released at this point has to be tentative at best.

With the tour not at Thompson, do I really care about Lancaster? Nope.

  6. How much is the NBC SPORTS GOLD PACKAGE FOR 2021??? Such a deal last year $20.00 bucks for all Tour races and Menards too .

  7. “Quality venues” Bahaha!

I would not consider Lancaster a quality venue. The facility is mediocre at best.

So is Lancaster a “Nascar sanctioned” track? I don’t see it listed anywhere on it’s website. Or is that just another way to stick it to the tracks and competitors who have supported Nascar all of these years?

  9. Gee not so SHARPIE fan, how is adding a race at Lancaster STICKING it to any track or competitor?
The Full Schedule has not been announced, ANY track that wants a WMT race can schedule one, so as usual besides JUST HATE for NASCAR i am confused by your Logic.

  10. Sharpie Fan says

It just seems like the Nascar WMT is running at more non-Nascar tracks like it did this season up North and not supporting as many tracks who have paid the sanctioning fees and competitors who have paid the licensing fees.
To me a Nascar series should run at Nascar tracks. But maybe they run a different business model and are trying to see if they can move in on the RoC competition.
