The Thompson Speedway oval will be active in 2025 and operated once again by the partnership of Cris Michaud and Tom Mayberry.

While all details concerning the 2025 schedule have yet to be solidified, Michaud confirmed to RaceDayCT that he and Mayberry will return to operate the track once again.

“We will be back,” Michaud said. “We don’t know what it’s going to look like right now. We’re still working on details. We’re hoping to have everything figured out by the World Series.”

The Sunoco World Series is scheduled to take place Oct. 11-13 at Thompson Speedway.

The Michaud/Mayberry operating group put on a 9-event schedule in 2024 that included the Icebreaker weekend and Sunoco World Series to bookend the season. That was an increase from a six-event scheduled in 2023.

The Icebreaker and World Series weekend events will both return to the schedule for 2025. Everything else is a work in progress. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is expected to make three visits to the track again in 2025. The Whelen Modified Tour was part of the Icebreaker and World Series schedules this year and also ran a Wednesday show on Aug. 14. A similar plan for the series is expected for 2025.

The Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series was originally scheduled to be a part of the Icebreaker weekend for their debut at Thompson. That event was postponed to Saturday Oct. 12 as part of the World Series weekend. The Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series is expected to be back on the Thompson schedule for at least one event in 2025.

Michaud is co-owner of the American-Canadian Tour, Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt and White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H. Mayberry owns the Pro All-Stars Series and Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Me.

Michaud and Mayberry first teamed up to put on a September Whelen Modified Tour event and the Sunoco World Series in 2020 at Thompson. Those were the only two events run on the oval at Thompson during the 2020 season.

Track ownership had originally intended to operate the oval in 2020, but opted out of that plan after COVID shutdowns began in the spring. Michaud and Mayberry came to an agreement with ownership in mid-summer of 2020 to put on two events that year. The pair has operated events at the oval track – running at least six events each year – since 2021.

  1. Thompson is still alive!!! THANK-YOU to Mr’s. Michaud and Mayberry for keeping it that way!! I believe this track is considered to be the first paved circle track in the US and I think it certainly deserves to live on!!!

  2. Blow me down!
Never really saw that coming. So overall it’s gotta be making some money somehow? Beyond me, but good news for now…..

  3. The Thompson oval lives to fight another day! Thank you gentlemen for your continued support.

I AGREE WITH FAST ED …INDY OF THE EAST !!!! MEN FROM MAINE …
THANK YOU !!! my favorite track to watch Modifieds .. favorite track i ever raced on as a driver , what a thrill !!! Hopefully we can get it right and keep it racing for many many years to come…!!

  5. I was pretty confident that the oval would be back for at least the Whelen Tour. I don’t know if that’s enough to keep it alive long term, but there are oval tracks that survive with less, right? So maybe?

  6. great news. I would like to see a schedule of weekend shows on or around holidays.
    Ice Breaker
    Memorial day
    4th of July weekend
    end of August-Labor day
    World Series

I think they need to bring in a reputable tour for each date to run with their weekly divisions. ACT PASS NESS are all under their control bring them in along with the 2 or 3 mod tour dates Whelen or Monaco. Need to run on the weekend or holiday. Sunday or Saturday if Seekonk has a thrill show. Monday if its a holiday. Might not work with the road course but I have heard there is a new road course in Western MA that is gaining some popularity. So maybe the Thompson road course schedule isn’t as crowded as in years past. You would think 3 weekends for road course 1 weekend a month for oval would be doable.

Make a Thompson PASS race a qualifier for the oxford 250

Make a ACT race part of a southern triple crown show. I believe they still do that.

Just happy they are coming back.

  7. Now if we can get the just get the Hoening’s to give up a few of Saturday’s evenings, and spend a few dollars on track, grandstand, and midway routine maintenance. We might just have something cooking here.

  8. Hillary 2024 says

Yes Yes! Thompson should schedule some Saturday evening races. Go right up against New London Waterford. Geniuses you all are. Brilliant!!🤣

  9. Wait a minute guys, let’s not pit Thompson against the Speedbowl, it could be detrimental to both!! We need to hang on the all the tracks we can, not have them piited against each other!! I like the idea of holidays, maybe a couple would work. Cleetus at Stafford? There’s an available Friday. Full Fendered Throwdown at the Speedbowl? There’s a PASS series Saturday.

  10. Doesn’t Waterford take a couple of weekends off for Sail fest and a mid summer break ? you even have the legend car weekend. Thompson jump on the opportunity !

  11. Needs grandstands!

  12. Pokey, there’s plenty of stands, and they’re in better shape than some tracks.

  13. Capt. Mike Qbvious says

    Super Fan,

When NLWS announced the 2024 schedule, there were no off-weekends between May 4 and September 21. Any off-weekends they did have were due to rain-outs.

  14. OK Captain mike, that could create a conflict of interest between the two tracks racing on the same night a couple of times a year – O Well! Why should Thompson have to take the back seat to any of these tracks they are competing against? If these tracks and series can’t get a common rule package and race schedule figured out, the sport we all love wouldn’t be around very long.
