STAFFORD – Donny Lia came to Stafford Motor Speedway Friday in search of victory lane. A hunt that has so far left him fruitless in 2014 on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

But that hunt for a win started in a good way for he and his Mystic Missile Racing team Friday afternoon at Stafford.

Lia, of Jericho, N.Y., led the way in practice in preparation for tonight’s Whelen Modified Tour Call Before You Dig 8-1-1 150 at Stafford.

Lia toured the half-mile oval at Stafford in 18.341 seconds (98.141 mph).

Lia comes into the event 12th in the Modified Tour standings with two top-10’s in seven events this year, including a second place finish at the Waterford Speedbowl in June.

Bobby Santos of Franklin, Mass., winner of the Spring Sizzler at Stafford in April, was second fastest at 18.387 seconds (97.895 mph).

Woody Pitkat of Stafford was third fastest in the one-hour practice session at 18.422 seconds (97.709 mph).

Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. and series points leader Doug Coby of Milford rounded out the top-five in practice respectively.
