Michael Bennett goes looking for his second victory of the season in the Late Model XtraMart Xtra D 50-lap event Friday at Stafford Speedway
Stafford Speedway kicks off its 2015 XtraMart Xtra D program with the Late Model division going 50-laps this Friday night. In addition to the $1,000 that will be split among the top-5 finishers, the race features total posted awards of over $8,600 with $1,475 in total awards available to the winner.
“It’s always nice to be able race for extra money and we’re very fortunate to have a sponsor like Xtra Mart who does this for us,” said Michael Bennett. “It’s not something that I really think about while I’m racing, but once the race is over it makes your week a lot brighter if you can finish in the top-5. I don’t know if this will change anyone’s driving style, but if you’re running sixth and you have a chance to get into fifth, you might get up on the wheel a little extra and try to get that spot. We usually spend more money on the cars than we make so it’s nice to have some free money that you can put towards something on the car.”
With contingency bonuses factored in, the top-5 payouts for the Late Model 50-lap Xtra D will range from $600 for fifth place all the way up to $1,475 to the winner. Tenth place will pay $250 and the race pays $125 to take the green flag.
The first two Late Model races of the 2015 season have seen two different winners with Michael Bennett winning the season opening NAPA Spring Sizzler feature and Josh Wood was the Opening Friday feature winner last week. 2-time defending Late Model champion Adam Gray currently occupies the top spot in the Late Model points standings on the strength of back to back second place finishes. Kevin Gambacorta and Jim Mavlouganes are the only other two drivers besides Gray to record top-5 finishes in each of the first two Late Model races of the 2015 season.
The XtraMart Xtra D Series continues next Friday night, May 15 with a 20-lap feature for the DARE Stock division that will split $200 among the top-5 finishers. The Limited Late Model Xtra D feature will be May 29, the SK Modified® Xtra D feature will be June 19, and the SK Light Xtra D feature will be July 3. The SK Lights and Ltd. Late Models will each split $500 among the top-5 finishers while the SK Modified® Xtra D will split $1,500 among the top-5 finishers.
