STAFFORD – For most SK Light Modified drivers at Dunleavy’s Truck & Trailer Night Friday has been circled on their calendar as the big one for the 2017, thanks to the big paying extra distance feature for the division.

But it was also a night that DARE Stock division driver Johnny Walker had a focus on.

Dunleavy, a longtime supporter of all things short track racing around Connecticut, a main sponsor and support of Walker’s racing efforts.

Friday Walker paid Dunleavy back for that support.

Walker, of Ludlow, Mass., won the 15-lap DARE Stock feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the first victory of the season for Walker, the reigning division champion.

“[Dunleavy] what drove us ten times hard to win tonight,” Walker said. “He was the one that took the chance on us last year. Took the chance on DARE Stock guy and we won the championship.”

Zack Robinson of Putnam, a winner twice this season, was second. Chris Bagnall of Norfolk was third.

Walker had finished second in the last three events at Stafford. During his victory lane celebration Walker presented Dunleavy with a replica of his championship trophy from 2016.

“Not winning, it just was not an option tonight,” Walker said. “We put so much work into this car every night at the shop. Not one or two nights, but every night at the shop this week we were going over that car. The car appreciates it. Losing was not an option tonight. We had to win.”
