Tom Carey III celebrates after winning the Late Model feature Sunday t Thompson Speedway

THOMPSON – In a wreck marred event, Tom Carey III held on through the carnage to win the 25-lap Late Model feature Sunday at Thompson Speedway.

It was the first career victory in the division for the New Salem, Mass. driver, who is in his third season at the track.

“Man it’s been a long three years,” Carey said. “I feel like we always should have been here a lot of times and just never seemed to be able to punch the ticket. The last race here we we were so fast and I knew we had a good piece today. I said if that door is not going to open I’m going to kick it in. And here we are in victory lane.”

Mark Jenison of Warwick, R.I. was second and William Wall of Shrewsbury, Mass. third.

Wayne Burroughs Jr. of Oakdale got his fourth victory of the season in the 15-lap Mini Stock feature.

“Those guys were getting a little rough at the beginning so we just kind of hung out of for a little while and let them take each other out banging off each other a little bit,” Burroughs said. “With about seven or eight [laps] to go it was time to turn the switch on and go to the front and that’s exactly what we did.”

Eric Bourgeois of East Haddam was second and Steve Michalski of Brooklyn third.

  1. Nice to see Tom Carey in victory lane!!!

  2. Not sure how in the late model race the 6 car hits the wall in turn to during an incident with the 11 causing a caution but then is able to get his spot back on the track when it goes back to green

  3. Hillary 2028 says

Being the point leader probably doesn’t hurt.
