Racing Against Cancer Celebrates Another Successful Season

It was another successful season as Racing Against CancerTM  (RAC) continued its fundraising activities with track nights, track walks, car shows and other racing events. The 2013 season proved to be a winner for their benefactors.

Racing Against Cancer SquareThe 2013 fundraising and racing season kicked off in January as Decourcy Racing hosted the third annual Racing Against CancerTM 100 at Checkered Flag Indoor Karting (CFIK) in Haverhill, MA. Family, friends, RAC supporters and karting enthusiasts came out in large numbers to participate in a fun-filled afternoon of karting events. Funds were raised via entry fees and other donations. Decourcy Racing generated over $4,000 for their third annual event. This event will return for the fourth time in 2014 on Saturday, January 25. Each year this event continues to grow and raise more funds!

After 16 successful years of raising funds to fight cancer, Racing Against Cancer™ jump started its Track Walk program in 2011. The program took place at Stafford Motor Speedway and Star Speedway during the 2013 racing season. The June track walk was held at Stafford Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 29. For this event RAC partnered with the new start up CT charity CT Women of Hope. Just over $8,000 was raised at this event. STAR Speedway in Epping, NH held their event on Labor Day Weekend as part of the that raised close to $4,000.

Track Walk funds were raised by participants accepting sponsors/pledges that were credited to both themselves and their teams. Awards were presented to the adult, youth and team with the most funds raised and for the most laps completed. Track Walks are expected to return in 2014.

In addition to Track Walks, many other fund raising activities took place throughout the year. The second annual Racing Against Cancer Benefit Night was held Saturday, September 7th at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. RAC was one of the primary benefactors of the sixth annual Jamie S. Rivera Car Show in Agawam, MA.

Leading the list of the twelve Racing Against CancerTM benefactors in 2013 was the American Cancer Society which received a check for $3,000. Other distinguished Racing Against CancerTM benefactors for the year included the David’s House, The Susan G. Komen Foundation CT, Victory Junction Camps, Ronald McDonald House of Providence, Tomorrow Fund, C.H.A.I.N. Fund, St. Jude Children Center, Shriner’s Hospital, CT Children’s Hospital and recently added L&M Cancer Center of Waterford, CT all of which received $1,000 or more. CT Women of Hope has had a $1,000 distribution placed into a holdings account while their 501(C)3 approval process is still on going. A total of over $14,000 was distributed to benefactors in 2013.
