Ron Silk Tops Modified Field On Night One Of World Series At New Smyrna Speedway
Ron Silk kicked off the 2014 Modified racing season in style Friday evening in New Smyrna, Fla.
Silk, of Norwalk, topped the field in winning the 35-lap Tour Type Modified feature on opening night of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.
Silk started third in the 14-car field according to the Chrome Horn.
Jimmy Zacharias of Candor, N.Y. was second and Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y. third.
Silk went by Zacharias for the lead on lap 23.
14 cars? Sounds sad compared to good old days!
Sadly, 14 cars on opening night is actually a high car count. With any luck they will get close to 18 cars by Wednesday.
Not a bad field for the first night. Most are waiting until after the Daytona race to start. Will never be like the good old days but not a bad first night.
