Daily Grind: Todd Szegedy Lands Mod Tour Ride For Riverhead; Thirty Racewear Partners With Truck Series

After a winter of waiting for opportunities, it’s been a busy few weeks for former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Todd Szegedy.

Daily Grind 300 BoxOn March 15 it was learned that Szegedy would run full-time in 2014 for team owner Kevin Stuart’s Valenti Modified Racing Series team. Last week Stafford Motor Speedway SK Modified team owner Steve Greer announced that Szegedy would run a backup car for him in the inaugural SK 5K at Stafford on July 4.

And now the ride list grows longer.

Long Island Jam reported Wednesday that Szegedy has finalized a deal to drive for Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway team owner Bill Park in both Whelen Modified Tour events at that track in 2014.

The Modified Tour runs on June 28 and Sept. 13 at Riverhead this year.

Szegedy is also expected to make some starts in Whelen All-American Series weekly events at Riverhead for Park this coming season.

— Officials from the New England Truck Series announced Wednesday that Thirty Racewear of Gales Ferry has joined as a sponsor for the 2014 season.

“I’m excited to have Thirty Racewear on board,” series director Lorraine Pard said in a release. “I’ve had great business experiences with [owner] Mark Caise, and am looking forward to working with Thirty Racewear as a new sponsor for our series.”

The New England Truck Series is scheduled to open its 2014 season this weekend as part of Budweiser Blastoff Weekend at the Waterford Speedbowl.
