STAFFORD – The momentum of Spring Sizzler dominance has seemed to roll right into the next event at Stafford Speedway for NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Bobby Santos III.

Santos, who won the NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler 200 at Stafford on April 27, was fastest in Whelen Modified Tour practice for tonight’s TSI Harley-Davidson 125 at Stafford.

It’s the first series event since the Spring Sizzler.

Santos, of Franklin, Mass., toured the half-mile oval with a fast lap of 18.344 seconds (98.125 mph).

Just over thirty minutes into the scheduled hour long practice session, a hard wreck by driver Rich Pallai Jr. brought action to a stop at the track. Pallai was treated at a local hospital and released. After about an hour delay to make wall repairs, practice resumed for about another 15 minutes.

Doug Coby of Milford was second fastest during the session at 18.385 seconds (97.906 mph). Series rookie Tommy Barrett Jr. of Millis, Mass., the Spring Sizzler pole winner, was third fastest (18.392 seconds, 97.869 mph). Twenty -five cars participated in the practice.

Woody Pitkat of Stafford was fourth fastest during the session and Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. fifth fastest.

25 cars is a pretty poor turnout for a NASCAR touring series. I guess race fans are expected to pay more money to see less race cars and talent in this new age of short track racing.

Gee, I wonder why some tracks are struggling?
