WATERFORD – Ken Cassidy Jr. has plenty of Mini Stock victories at the Waterford Speedbowl.

More than anybody that’s ever raced in the division actually.

Saturday though, the division’s all-time winningest driver notched one that will forever stand out emotionally for the Lisbon driver.

Cassidy won the 25-lap Mini Stock feature Saturday at Waterford and dedicated the victory to his former competitor in the division, Danny Field, who passed away Wednesday after battling cancer. Field was 56 years old.

Ed Field drove his older brother’s familiar No. 18 Mini Stock at the front of the division’s field in pace laps before Saturday’s feature and then joined Cassidy with the car in victory lane after the event.

“This goes out to all of Danny’s fans and his family,” Cassidy said. “Danny was a tough competitor to race against. I loved racing against him. He made me a better driver because we just raced that hard every week. … I wish [Danny] was here behind the wheel. I think he turned me into a better driver, racing that hard week in and week out. It’s just really sad.”

Field was a three-time Mini Stock champion at Waterford, who had 28 wins in the division over his career. Cassidy is a five-time division champion with 54 career victories.

“He was there every week,” Cassidy said. “We went through years battling for championships. You look in the record book and I won it then he won it. He was just the man to beat when I first started. An awesome competitor. Definitely going to be missed on the track.”

Dave Trudeau of Mansfield was second and Garrett Denton of Hope Valley, R.I. third. It was the second consecutive victory for Cassidy.

Cassidy went by Trudeau for the lead with 19 laps remaining and never trailed again.
