STAFFORD – A planned part-time effort on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2014 for Timmy Solomito could be turning into a full-time run for he and his Wayne Anderson owned team.

Solomito, at Stafford Motor Speedway to run tonight’s Whelen Modified Tour TSI Harley-Davidson 125, confirmed that his team is on the entry list for the next series event, the Mr. Rooter 161 on June 21 at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Solomito, of Islip, N.Y. said the team’s plans to run full-time weekly in the Tour Type Modified division at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway and run part-time on the Whelen Modified Tour, have changed.

“Originally it was supposed to be something part time [on the Whelen Modified Tour] this year,” Solomito said. “But we’re kind of off to a rough start at Riverhead so, we might be changing directions a little bit here. Nothing totally set in stone just yet, but we’re trying towards that.”

Solomito said the plans are in the works now to run the the Whelen Modified Tour full-time for the remainder of the 2014 season.

And with good reason. After two events this year the 22-year Solomito sits fourth in the Whelen Modified Tour standings, 10 points behind series leader Justin Bonsignore.

Solomito was fourth in the season opening Icebreaker on April 6 at Thompson Speedway and was eighth in the Spring Sizzler on April 27 at Stafford Speedway. Before this year, Solomito had seven career Modified Tour starts, with one top-five and two top-10 finishes and a pole in last September’s series event at Riverhead Raceway.

Solomito, who starts 11th in tonight’s event at Stafford, said running the Modified Tour full-time has long been a goal.

“It’s something you always dream about growing up,” Solomito said. “This is where I wanted to be. My dad used to run Modifieds, and primarily where you want to be is on the [Whelen Modified Tour]. To have the opportunity and have guys even thinking about it is pretty exciting for me. We’re really looking forward to it. I hope we can put all the pieces together and try to run some more races and hopefully run well.”
