WATERFORD – The contact on the track on between Ryan Waterman and Phil Evans during the Street Stock feature at the Waterford Speedbowl was hot and heavy.

And that “contact” carried right over into victory lane after the event.

After a heated battle for the lead with Evans, Waterman came out victorious in the 25-lap Street Stock feature Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

After the race, Evans met Waterman in victory lane and slapped him while Waterman sat in his car.

It was the second victory of the season for Waterman, of Danielson. Evans, of Uncasville, was second and Scott Sundeen of Douglas, Mass. third.

With seven laps left, Waterman used a bump to get by Evans for the lead. But a lap later Evans used similar contact to go by Waterman to retake the lead.

With four laps remaining Waterman made another move under Evans for the lead in turn four and never trailed again.

“I was very surprised,” Waterman said. “I was just running the same way I had been. He slowed up and I barely touched him a couple times and he took it the wrong way and started driving through me. I let him have it back and I said ‘I’ll just pass you again.’ It looked he tried giving me a good one there and missed and that’s why I got so much ground on him so I was happy about that.”

When Waterman pulled into victory lane, Evans was there to greet him in his car.

“He said ‘If you ever drive me like that again I’m going junk your car,’ then he hit me,” Waterman said.

Evans said Waterman, “Doesn’t know how to race fair.”

“So he can’t pass anybody without driving through them,” Evans said. “Next time he does it he’s going to get his teeth knocked out.”
