Snake Sighting: Bob Georgiades Back In The Pits At Stafford Speedway For Inaugural SK 5K

STAFFORD – The Inaugural NAPA Auto Parts SK 5K had some faces arriving in the SK Modified pits at Stafford Motor Speedway not usually seen.

One of them was an old familiar face to fans at the half-mile oval.

Hitting the track for preparation was East Hampton’s Bob “The Snake” Georgiades, who was making his first appearance at the track in about 10 years.

Georgiades started running full-time in the SK Modified division at Stafford in 1983. His full-time days at the track came to an end in the early 2000’s. He’s made appearances with his SK Modified in recent years at the Waterford Speedbowl.

He said the allure of the inaugural SK 5K was enough to get him back on the track at Stafford, where he had two career SK Modified division victories (in 1991 and 1998).

“We like playing. Unfortunately – even way back we had little or no money – but the rules, I guess it was easier to do it back then,” Georgiades said. “The competition was tough, but you could run a lot less expensive car motor-wise and everything else. Everything just got so darn expensive. … I just hope we can make the show here.”

I totally agree. Nice guy with way more talent than the final results might indicate.
