(Press Release from OTB Promotions)
OTB Promotions, Inc. has announced it’s third event: a charity go-kart affair. Set for January 16, 2016, the inaugural Karting to Conquer Cancer event, is a motorsports fundraiser, raising money for the ongoing battle against cancer.
The event, which is expected to draw some of the Northeast’s most talented drivers, will be held at one of On-Track Karting’s facilities in southern Connecticut. A field of 100 drivers will be split into three (3) weight classes, having to race their way through qualifying races, consolation rounds, and an A-Main to advance to the starting field for the 25-lap feature event.
For OTB’s Executive Vice President, Josh Vanada, this event is deeply personal. His father, Chuck, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma over 15 years ago. Through the advances of modern science, and the selflessness of another, Chuck received a stem cell transplant, saving his life. Celebrating his 53rd birthday in early February, Chuck, now enjoys a cancer-free life.
“I have seen how terrible cancer can be, and I have also seen how research and treatment can beat it,” Josh recalled. “I’d like to be able to support further research and treatment options so others can beat cancer in the way that my father has been able.”
The Karting to Conquer Cancer event already has high goals, as the OTB Promotions team has been working to make this event a success right out of the gate.
Vanada forecasted: “The goal for this event is to raise money to help treat, and eventually, cure cancer. What will make it successful is raising over $10,000 in our first year doing it. The benefit for all of us is that we get to do something that we love, while helping to eradicate something that we all hate.”
In typical OTB fashion, the event will have a unique twist which will set it apart from other similar events. A bracket-style tournament will be held with up to sixteen (16) drivers, competing for bragging rights and a modest prize. Drivers will be able to challenge one another in a Match Race, with the winner advancing to the next round, until a victor emerges. The winner of this event will receive a trophy, a guaranteed position in the following year’s event as well as bragging rights of being the inaugural Karting to Conquer Cancer Match Race Champion.
Minimum fundraising requirement for the Karting to Kill Cancer event is $150, with a $50 entry fee covering the track rental.
More details for this event will become available in September. In the meantime, please contact OTB’s Executive Vice President, Josh Vanada ([email protected]) for more information.
