Woody Pitkat Leads The Way In Whelen Modified Tour Spring Sizzler 200 Practice At Stafford

STAFFORD – Last August hometown boy Woody Pitkat celebrated his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory at Stafford Motor Speedway.

This weekend Pitkat is hoping to get the one every racing kid in Stafford grows up wanting.

And the weekend started good Saturday morning for Pitkat and his Buzz Chew Whelen Modified Tour team.

Pitkat, of Stafford, was fastest in practice Saturday morning in preparation for Sunday’s Whelen Modified Tour NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler 200.

Pitkat toured the half-mile oval at Stafford with a fast lap of 18.014 seconds (99.922 mph) during the one hour and 15 minute practice session.

Pitkat opened the 2015 with a runner-up finish in the Icebreaker 150 at Thompson Speedway on April 12.

Ryan Preece of Berlin was second fastest during the practice Saturday morning at 18.033 seconds (99.817 mph). Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y. was third fastest during the session at 18.069 seconds (99.618 mph).

Todd Szegedy (18.101 seconds, 99.442 mph) of Ridgefield and Timmy Solomito 18.102 seconds, 99.437 mph) of Islip, N.Y. rounded out the top five in practice.

Ted Christopher of Plainville was sixth fastest and Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass., looking for his third consecutive Spring Sizzler victory, was seventh fastest. Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. and Steve Masse of Bellingham, Mass. rounded out the top-10 in practice respectively.

Doug Coby, winner of the season opening event at Thompson and the reigning series champion was 13th fastest during practice.
