WATERFORD – It’s a One Last Hurrah sort of year for New London-Waterford Speedbowl Limited Sportsman driver Jack Aqualina. And the Oakdale driver is surely making the most of that fact of late.

On June 13 Aqualina recorded his first Limited Sportsman victory at the track since 2008.

Saturday Aqualina made sure there wouldn’t be another extended hiatus between celebrations.

Aqualina drove to his second consecutive victory in the 25-lap Limited Sportsman feature Saturday at Waterford.

Corey Coates of Ledyard was second and Al Stone III of Durham third.

Aqualina said it was his wife – and crew chief – Lori who convinced him to put everything they had into the 2015 season at the shoreline oval.

“The beginning of last year I was telling my wife, ‘I’ve got nothing to prove, let’s walk away now. I’ve had my fun.’ She was like, “Let’s do one more year, let’s give it 100 percent.’ And it’s paid off. I was beginning to wonder if I could drive anymore. But we have better equipment this year and obviously it’s showing.”

Craig Lutz of Miller Place, N.Y. won the rain-shortened NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature. The scheduled 35-lap event was stopped after 20 laps because of rain. It was the second SK Modified victory at Waterford for Lutz.

“I’ll take the win anyway I can get it,” Lutz said.

John Montesanto of North Branford had a career best second place finish and Matt Gallo of Meriden was third.

Dana DiMatteo of Farmington won the 25-lap Legends feature. Cassandra Cole of Westbrook was second and Corey DiMatteo of Farmington third.
