WATERFORD – Early in the evening at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, Keith Rocco lost to Jason Palmer in a photo finish at the checkered in the Late Model feature.

When he hit the track for the SK Modified feature he made sure that there would be no questions about who won when the checkered flag flew.

Rocco, of Wallingford, easily held the competition at bay in winning the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

It was the third victory in SK Modified events this year at Waterford and extended his record for all-time victories at the track to 110.

“In the Late Model race Palmer was pretty close to us,” Rocco said. “Tonight, this Troyer Chassis Northeast Race Cars [car] was pretty dominant. It had great drive off. It turned really good. We had a great car tonight. The top was working great for us.”

Rob Janovic Jr. of Waterford was second and Ted Christopher of Plainville third.

Rocco went to the lead past Timmy Jordan near the halfway point in the event and then checked out from the field.

A caution with two laps remaining bunched up the field for a green-white-checkered finish, but nobody had anything for Rocco over the final two laps.

“The car was really good tonight,” Rocco said. “I keep picking at it, making little changes here and there. Trying to make it better. It’s hard to improve a car that’s really as good as it is. We just keep picking at it and try to make it the best we can every week.”
