WATERFORD – The 2015 season began with many around the New London-Waterford Speedbowl wondering if Ted Christopher had forgotten how to win in an SK Modified at the shoreline oval.

Christopher went through the 2013 and 2014 season winless running full-time for car owner Doug DiPisa and his Prestige Motorsports team.

This year the Plainville driver has been on a mission to make sure everybody knows he hasn’t forgotten how to get it done in Waterford.

Christopher drove away from Keith Rocco over the closing laps to win the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature

“It’s a great car right now,” Christopher said. “I wish I had it like two years ago.”

It was the second consecutive victory for Christopher and his sixth overall this season at Waterford.

“The whole team is in a pretty good zone right now,” Christopher said. “… And right now the car is working for me the way I want it. It’s good.”

Rocco, of Wallingford, was second and Joey Gada of Salem third.

Dylan Izzo led early, but it was Rocco that made a rush from fourth to second following a lap two restart. Christopher rolled with Rocco to third.

On lap eight Rocco tried to make a move to get around Izzo for the lead, but it opened the door for Christopher to move past him to second.

“The best part about tonight was being able to pass Keith [Rocco],” Christopher said. “I knew he was going to try to make the up high, down low move on that kid. I just stayed close enough to him that if it didn’t work I could fill the hole and I did. Then I got a better run to try to get by [Izzo].”

Said Rocco: “I was just struggling tonight. I couldn’t get the car to turn in the middle. We’ve got something wrong. I couldn’t make the outside work. I was trying to get a good run center off underneath [Izzo] and Ted filled the hole and that was the end of that.”

Christopher went by Izzo for the lead off of turn four on lap 12 and was never challenged at the front again.

I guess the SK13 had just as much steam this week with Sunoco Supreme fuel, wouldn’t you agree I have an Idea?

  2. Probably had a nitrous bottle tonight … Not !

  3. Show the points, haven’t updated since July 25!?

  4. Ron Johnston/Speedway service says

Ted Christopher still gets really exited with a win even after his many victories. He still loves to pass cars and arouse the fans. 20 years ago they booed him and threw beer now they applaud him, but no matter they come to see HIM.

give credit where credit is due, the 57 year old Christopher can run with anybody given the right equipment !

  6. Twisty if you want to see the Waterford points, they are under each division at the http://www.SpeedbowlCT.com website. Here’s direct link: http://speedbowlct.com/saturday-nwaas/sk-standings Good win for 13SK. Race was a little boring though as the field got strung out single file for the most part during the long green flag run. Wonder why there was not much passing or outside groove in both SK and Late Model races last night.

  7. Webguy did you click on that link yourself and see what it shows? It shows July 25th when i look at it, all the other divisions are updated.

  8. Nice job Teddy and #13 team, glad I was there to see it.

  9. Twisty,
Must be an issue with the cache on your device or something like that. The link works fine for me. I see points updated through last night.

  10. Shawn, do you know if Rocco and Teddy will at Riverhead or Waterford next Saturday?

  11. Twisty try forcing a page refresh to clear your cache for the page link

  12. Paul,
I’m not sure what the plans are for either right now.

Teddy will be at the bowl and I’m betting Keith as well he still has a cast

  14. Way to go Teddy. Its great to see an old fart just slightly younger than me that can still get the job done and put the kids in their place. Like I said last week, the VP fuel had nothing to do with your previous wins. Its all about hard work and determination on your entire teams part. Congratulations.

  15. Calm down Twisty, I’m pretty sure if the speedbowl hadn’t been updating the point standings, you wouldn’t be the first and only person complaining about it.

  16. Rich
I was the first and only person questioning points update with sk class only. Thanks to Webguy and Shawn i reset phone to desktop mode then back to mobile and everything is good. You crawled out from under a rock to tell me to calm down, you have quite a life!

  17. Twisty you are not the only one having issues with the refresh issue to get the latest pages to load. I am not sure why the Speedbowl’s website does not automatically refresh to the latest info every time you open a page. I have still have an issue of not being able to see the dates on the schedule page even after refreshing. I don’t see these issues on other racetracks websites. Maybe its just a setting or maybe its not, either way IMO the Speedbowls website needs a revamp and brought up to speed.

  18. The Speedbowl will fix the website right after they fix the scoreboard.
