WATERFORD – Two times before it was the win Nick Salva just couldn’t wrangle into his grasp.

Sunday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl the SK Light Modified driver from Prospect got the one that kept slipping away.

Salva held off the charges of Tony Membrino Jr. to win the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature as part of the Super Bowl of Racing at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

It was the first career victory at the Speedbowl for Salva, a regular in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway.

“Ending the season on a high note is huge,” Salva said. “We’ve come here twice already, ran great both times. The first time finished second, just a little bit shy. The second time we had a great chance to win and got taken out with about five [laps] to go running second. Just to cap it off, here, I love this track. I have a lot of fun racing here. And this definitely makes the winter a lot nicer.”

Membrino, of Plantsville, was second and Joey Ferrigno of East Hartford third.

Keith Rocco of Wallingford won the 30-lap Late Model feature.

Gerry DeGasparre Jr. of Pawtucket, R.I. was second and Walt Sutcliffe of East Haven third. Dylan Izzo won the 35-lap Bridgewater-Raynham Overhead Door Legends feature.

Jeff Rocco of Wallingford was second and Dana DiMatteo of Farmington third.

  1. Most of these sk lite drivers are terrible, watched that 55 car drive into the wall all by himself at least 3 times.. Caused a wreck on the front straight away… Can’t believe they didn’t park him for the night??? Good to see a decent payout for once

  2. Grey Matter says

Pretty easy to win when you start up front. I saw only one SK Light making a lot of passes after being spun out on lap one.
