THOMPSON – It’s the high every driver is searching for. Putting the car away a winner.

Corey Hutchings got to revel in just that euphoria Sunday at Thompson Speedway.

Hutchings, of Salem, won the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature Sunday at the Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway.

“Ending the season on a high is great because it’s a long off-season and thinking about only finishing 15th you say ‘Oh that sucked.’” Hutching said. “So winning the last race of the season is the ultimate high.”

Josh Wood of Palmer, Mass. was second and Jesse Gleason of Lisbon third.

Scott Sundeen of Douglas, Mass. used a fourth place finish to clinch his fourth track championship. Sundeen also won Limited Sportsman division titles at Thompson in 2008, 2012 and 2014.

Sundeen came into the day leading four-time division champion Larry Barnett of Moosup by four points in the standings. Barnett finished sixth.

“It was awesome,” Sundeen said. “My goal today was to beat one car and one car only and that’s what I did so hear I am.”

Dave Shullick Jr. of North Ridgeville, Oh. won the 50-lap ISMA SuperModified feature.

Rob Summer of Manchester was second and Mike Lichty of Innerkip, Ont. was third.

Scott Bigelow of East Hampton won the 25-lap NEMA Lite feature. John Zych Jr. of Mendon, Mass. was second and Randy Cabral of Plymouth, Mass. third. Anthony Payne of Fairlawn, N.J. used a fourth place finish to clinch his first series title.

  1. Management ! says

Good ole Scott Tapley really blew the call for Cory Hutchings to get the win . On the radio he threatened the 75 of waterman not to jump start or loose a lap . So Cory slowed way to much do Waterman had to and Cory got a big jump . That start should have been waved off and Cory told to keep Pace Car Speed . But Tapley let if go like he always does . Grow a pair Tapley .

Love to see what a good race it could have been .

  2. Congrats to Scott Sundeen on another championship. Him and Larry were never more than two or three positions apart the entire race, and were side by side a few times. Great to see the championship decided like this…. unlike the end of the late model division.
