New London-Waterford Speedbowl Adds New Division For Thursday Thunder Events

(Press Release from New London-Waterford Speedbowl)

New London Waterford Speedbowl LogoNew London-Waterford Speedbowl management today announced that beginning in 2016 the Thursday Night Thunder Series will have an addition division to entertain fans.

The division is called the Grand American division, the name which is a throwback to the mid to late 1970’s division which since then evolved into the Late Model stock car you see today.

The Grand Americans are based off of the Lee USA Speedway Iron Man division.

The Grand Americans are based on most any American front wheel driver car found on the road today. Cars must be a model 10 years or older, 2 doors, 4 doors or station wagons. Cars must have 6-cylinder engines and automatic transmissions. Cars will have minimal safety upgrades such as 4-point roll cage, fuel cell, window net and safety belts.

At the discretion of track management a car may be “claimed” for a predetermined amount minus all safety equipment by the track.

A competitor who has their car claimed by the track will have the option of being provided with a comparable replacement car so they can get back to racing.

Also, a competitor may claim the car that finished directly in front of them providing the claim criteria is met.

  1. I USED TO WATCH MY UNCLE MIKE RACE A 1956 FORD TWO DOOR, #66, IN THE GRAND AMERICAN CLASS BACK IN 1974. ,…THIS NEW CLASS OUGHT TO BE INTERESTING. TRYING NEW IDEAS LIKE THIS AND OTHERS AT THE BOWL NEXT YEAR,I BELIEVE, WILL MAKE FOR FULLER GRANDSTANDS AND SOME PRETTY GOOD RACING.

  2. Another division to tear up the track surface and add to the back gate procedes. Great.

  3. Grey Matter says

Oh Great.. Get a grip and stop your complaining. You’re lucky there’s a racetrack there at all. You want to see a bad track surface, go to Monadnock. Waterford is like glass compared to Monadnock and some of the best races I’ve ever seen happen up there so put on your big boy pants and be thankful we’re even talking about the bowl.

Kudos to Shawn and crew for bringing back racing for the working man and the much needed improvements to the facility.
