Just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday the hopes of those around the New London-Waterford Speedbowl racing community rocketed when an announcement was posted on the track’s Facbeook page and website.
The announcement stated that plans were in the works for the 2017 season at the track and within seconds the announcement was being shared all over Facebook.
But rumor and mystery and questions have been the overriding theme concerning the immediate and long term future of the track since the legal issues were made public for track owner Bruce Bemer in March, and that theme remained the same on Monday.
At some point this afternoon the announcement was removed the track’s Facebook site. Also, the track’s website has been down all afternoon.
Track management was unavailable for comment on Sunday evening concerning the announcement, nor on Monday concerning its removal.
The text of the posting that was made on Sunday is below:
NEW LONDON WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL RELEASES RACING
PLANS FOR THE 2017 SEASON
The Management of the New London Waterford Speedbowl is pleased to announce that there is currently a working agreement for the Speedbowl to be Leased for the 2017 racing season. Additional information will follow within the coming weeks but it is anticipated that racing will begin before the end of June. Updates will be posted on our website as well as our Facebook page as details are confirmed. An open practice will be scheduled prior to opening weekend. We thank all of our staff, drivers, fans and supporters for their patience and love of the race track and ask that you continue to be patient as final details are made. In the meantime …… LETS GET READY TO GO RACING!!
The track was originally schedule to open May 6-7 for Blastoff Weekend. Track officials announced the postponement of Blastoff weekend on April 26. Until Sunday evening’s now erased announcement, there had been no other announcements made concerning the 2017 season since the April 26.
This is very strange. It is not unusual for strange things to happen at the Waterford Speedbowl, though. 🙂
Weird. Track management was unavailable for comment. Since I created the now used Facebook page, even though I’m not associated with the page as an admin or editor, I can still see who posts to the page. It was definitely an employee. So the page wasn’t hacked.
Folks pounced on that FB post and made it clear they were not interested in attending the NLWSB as long as Bemer still owned the track. Message was loud and clear, there is no interest, certainly not enough to make it worth opening the track. If it opens, it will almost certainly lose money.
The sooner Bemer sells, the better for the track. Rule #1: Don’t lose money.
The post was probably removed by the track because of some of the comments being posted. Just because a member of management posts something doesn’t mean they are ready to talk or can elaborate more than they originally did. People have to continue to be patient and when they are ready to make a statement you will find out like the rest of us.
We all need to know what is going on. A lot of us have kids and need to know for summer plans and things of that nature. Stop jerking the whole community around and tell us!
This situation is a bit bigger than you making summer plans to entertain the kiddies you narrow minded narsasistic fool. Hope your summer sucks you freakin tool.
Fox 61 “According to management, there is currently a working agreement for the Speedbowl to be leased for the season. The racetrack said final details still need to be confirmed, but racing should begin before the end of June.” It’s Fox 61. I’m going to assume they confirmed the story.
X Cars, Super X Cars, Spectator drags. NLWSB is not just Saturday night racing. Forget the accused. His life is effectively over and all the profit in the world, lease or not will end up with lawyers and victims. Support the track, this situation is fleeting in the grand scope of things.
The facebook and Speedbowl web site drama aside, sometimes we know all there is to know and poprocks advice is the wisest of all. Patience grasshoppers but when it opens support the track.
From the NLWSB posting: “Updates will be posted on our website as well as our Facebook page as details are confirmed”
NOTE: “… as details are confirmed.”
There appears to be nothing confirmed right now that would enable any reasonable person to think the track is opening at any time. It’s all about the details, and there are no confirmed details.
The response from the teams, sponsors, sanctioning body, staff and employees, and customers pretty much tells what is going to happen, or not happen.
It is confirmed that the NLWSB missed the original opening date. It is also confirmed as of now that there is no published rescheduled opening date.
Mark, how do you get the world to revolve around you?
Funny comment coming from dameathead, who fancies himself the comments sections mother hen, chief scolder, and general expert on everything.
Thank you for adding some unintentional hilarity to an increasingly tedious subject.
The Speedbowl website and Facebook page are back online – without the “leasing” announcement.
Check back later for more fake news . Racing ,Racing ,Racing , Soon ,Soon ,Soon …

I just drove by the track and see stuff going on. I believe that the post was removed due to massive media attention. Bruce has become even more private and im sure he’s not trying to throw anyone off. Plans havnet changed . We will be racing asap .
And that tells us what? It was a bunch of BS from the get go. Don’t believe anything until someone stands in front of a camera or has a photo op and explains what is going on.
And yet those that are smart enough to not believe the BS are called “negative.”

I can’t wait untill this us all over and I wont have to hear or read all these BS comments..I just want to drive my not road worthy Chevy chevette there on a hot Saturday night, buy a warm beer, a cold burnt hot dog, go risk my life by either being burnt alive or falling to my death while sitting in the rickety 1949 stands, look around and not see a sexy lady in the place and watch me some racin!!!
SKL,you lost me at no sexy ladies
