Local Racing Community Mourns The Loss Of Journalist Mark Wiernasz

The southern New England racing community was jarred this week by the passing of longtime motorsports journalist Mark Wiernasz.

Wiernasz was also a former announcer at the now closed Riverside Park Speedway in Agawam, Mass. and Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.

Weirnasz was a longtime assignment manager at Channel 22 News in Springfield, Mass.

Matt Wiernasz continues his son’s legacy in sports journalism, covering racing and hockey as a photographer and writer for multiple media outlets.

    I remember Mark on Tv 22 here in Springfield then going to Riverside Park and listening to Mark and Rollie Jacobs also from 22 announce the races with Mr Ben Dodge, Enjoyed the zest they both brought to Riverside and to 22 sports which didn’t get much Tv coverage of auto racing to local news in the 70’s and 80’s until Rollie and Mark made sure it was shown a lot!
    RIP to Mark and sympathy to his family.
