Last week Woody Pitkat announced that he would be back behind the wheel for Friday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Stafford Motor Speedway with a newly formed organization, Gunsmoke-Stebbins Racing.
Tuesday a change of plans means Pitkat will actually be driving for a new team to him, but not to the series.
Pitkat announced late Tuesday through Facebook that he will be replacing Donny Lia in the Tommy Baldwin Jr. owned No. 7NY ride for Friday’s Stafford 150.
The Gunsmoke-Stebbins Racing group – teaming owners Steve Greer and Danny Stebbins – is now set to make its debut in the Bud King of Beers 150 at Thompson Speedway on Aug. 9.
“I can’t thank Tommy Baldwin enough for the opportunity and look forward to working with him,” Pitkat said in a posting on the Woody Pitkat Racing Facebook page. “Also thanks to my team for letting me do this and push forward to prepare our car for Thompson.”
Pitkat started the first seven races of the 2017 Whelen Modified Tour season for the Goodie Motorsports entry overseen by Jeff Goodale. The team released him following the July 15 Eastern Propane & Oil 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Pitkat sits ninth in the series standings with nine events remaining this year.
Pitkat expects to run selected event for the Gunsmoke-Stebbins Racing team.
Why is Lia out?
This is the opportunity that Pitkat needs, and the driver that Baldwin needs. This should be fun.
It’s a one race deal and I’d say Lia is no slouch.. He does have 2 championships doesn’t he??
This will be very cool watching Woody back in a top notch ride. No offense to the 46, but they seem to be a couple of steps away from where they need to be. Baldwin and Woody? At Stafford? GOOD STUFF!
OK so I have Lia down for 4 starts out of 7 races. One pole, no wins, top 5’s or top 10’s currently standing at 28th in points. In the Sizzler he wrecked coming in 22nd.
This is no lose for everyone except perhaps Lia.
Follow the leader no passing series
I think they have wrecked out of every race they’ve entered this year. If Woody finishes running that will be a win.
Will Lia be back in the Mystic Missile??
Yeah because they want to clip the Missile every week too
Tim, Lia’s 2 championships were a long time ago. He hasn’t performed since then.
