I don’t know why Sid does this but with the multi camera set up it really provide a tremendous new perspective to races show all the incidental contact these guys experience. This race kind of momentous for being yellow free gives the best perspective of how much success drivers can achieve without the benefit of a caution. Or conversely how difficult it is to make progress without the benefit of cautions when you are about as equal with a lot of other cars.
Gervais was great giving up three positions reluctantly but ending up about where he deserved based on his lap time. Preece was fast but that simply isn’t good enough starting 14th when the the first 10 spots are just so equal. Berndt was the best moving up 8 spots to Williams 6 and with a slower best lap time. Does that mean he’s a better driver or just got better position at the right time?
Rocco and Preece did not have a good night and both had good cars. This simply shows how good a drivers they both are. When the races are muddled by cautions the theory is the best drivers get the biggest advantage. That advantage didn’t happen in this race.
27 cars going green to checker. Amazing.
From what I understand, Ryan Preece was driving a car that was not only brand new to competition, but incorporated some design changes from previous models.
