STAFFORD – The statistics speak well of the consistency and speed of Travis Hydar in 2019 at Stafford Motor Speedway.
Hydar came into Friday night’s event at Stafford with 10 top-five’s in 11 starts in the Street Stock division, matching the division lead for top-five’s in 2019.
The problem before Friday was the number next to the top-five’s in the Stafford statistics. Missing was a victory for one of the most consistent drivers at the track this year.
Problem no more.
Hydar worked his way through traffic, got to the front and finally finished the mission he’s been chasing to complete all season.
Hydar, of Woodbury, won the 20-lap Street Stock feature at Stafford Speedway Friday.
“It was really hard to get through traffic, but we put the right adjustment in the car for the feature and we made it work,” Hydar said. “We had all the consistent finishes through the year and it finally paid off, we’re here in victory lane.”
Zack Robinson of Putnam was second and Nicole Chambrello of Kensington third.
Hydar said the pressure to get that first victory of 2019 wasn’t getting to him.
“It wasn’t really something that put pressure on us,” Hydar said. “Our main goal was to just keep running consistent and we knew sooner or later it would pay off and we’d get the win.”
Gary Patnode grabbed the lead from David Tefft out of turn four on lap 11 and held on to win the 15-lap Limited Late Model feature.
It was the second victory of the season and overall for Patnode, of Barkhamstead.
“We did it again, Patnode said. “It feels as good if not better than the first win.”
David Tefft of Southampton, Mass. was second and Matt Clement of Wethersfield third.
