Legendary Car Owner Bob Judkins To Be Honored At Tr-Track Open Mod Series Event At Oxford Plains

(Press release from the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series)

While the Tri-Track Open Modified Series (TTOMS) is resolutely focused on securing a bright future for Modified racing by providing a strong platform for competition and entertainment, they have never forgotten those that forged the foundation of short track racing in New England.

As an ongoing nod to the legends, series founders and officials often dedicate events to luminaries of the sport. This weekend, amid the excitement of the Oxford 250, as part of the Oxford 100 for the TTOMS on Saturday, August 24, the late Bob Judkins will be honored.

“You can’t do what we do to promote racing and forget those who paved the way,” said Series founder Jim Schaefer. “Without great racers and car owner, track owners and operators of the past, we would not have the ability to put on good races, great races, with this generation. It’s truly an honor for me and Dick [Williams] to recognize these legends and connect with their families.”

On Saturday, August 24, 2019, TTOMS will make its debut at 3/8-mile Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME, for the running of the Oxford Plains 100. As part of the TTOMS festivities, two of Judkins’ famed 2Xs Modifieds will be on display at Oxford Plains Speedway.  Bob’s daughter Tanya Judkins Griffin will serve as the Grand Marshall for the event. The race winner of the Oxford 100 will be presented a beautiful plaque in remembrance of Bob Judkins.

Racing legends are often known for their racing prowess behind the wheel, their keen eye for talent as an owner, sometimes even their tempers but not many are recognized for starting a ‘revolution.’  Bob Judkins; however, was ‘that guy’. After fielding cars for a host of New England Antique Racers Hall of Famers the likes of Rene Charland, Gene Bergin and Ed Flemke, Sr. and notable characters like Mario ‘Fats’ Caruso and Kenny Shoemaker, he debuted a controversial Pinto body on his soon to be famous 2x Modified in 1971. It caused quite a stir and ultimately started what was called the “Pinto Revolution”.

Before, during and after, Bob Judkins was a winner. He scored victories and won championships for over five decades with legends like Flemke, Ron Bouchard, Reggie Ruggiero, Brett Bodine, Jerry Marquis and Dave Caruso.  Jason Boyd brought many accolades to the Judkins storied history at Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway. His legacy lives on with his beloved grandson Ryan Preece.

A Hall of Famer himself, Judkins was a proud Army veteran. He passed away at the age of 83 on October 25, 2018.

Pit gates open at 9am on Saturday, August 24. Grandstands open at 10:30am for a full-day of practice from 10:30 to approximately 4:00pm followed by an evening of great racing action that also includes Street Stocks, Vintage racers, Classic Lites, Legends and ACT Late Models. Heat races are scheduled to go green at 4:30pm followed immediately by feature racing.

Pit admission on Saturday is $40. Grandstand admission is $30 for adults. Juniors, ages 6-12, are $15. Oxford’s traditional Family 4 Pack (2 Adults & 2 juniors) will be available for $65. Skybox seats are also available for $50 for adults and $25 for juniors.
