THOMPSON – For years Jon McKennedy has been close at Thompson Speedway, but always just missed getting to the top.

Sunday the veteran of Modified and Super Modified racing at the track finally found his way to victory lane at the historic facility and did it in the most special of dedicating fashions.

McKennedy scored victory in the International Super Modified Association 50-lap feature at the Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway.

McKennedy, of Chelmsford, Mass., dedicated the victory to his father Dennis, who passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 22.

“This was for him,” McKennedy said. “I lost my best friend a few weeks ago. My dad. He was a huge part of my racing career. … He was my best friend. A huge part of my racing career. He was always behind me 100 percent. He was my biggest fan. He had a time admitting it I think, but I know he was my biggest fan. It’s a tough situation. I really miss him.”

Mike Ordway Jr. of Windham, Me. was second and Ben Seitz of Monument Beach, Mass. third.

“It’s pretty cool to get a win here,” McKennedy said. “It feels great. It feels great to win here at Thompson. I’ve won at 18 or 19 race tracks up and down the east coast and this is actually my first win at Thompson in anything. I’ve finished second numerous times with the [NASCAR Whelen] Modified Tour, the [Valenti Modified Racing Series], ISMA. I’d always run awesome here, I was just never able to get that win. It feels great to get a win here today.”
